Ascent Trip ReportArrived at Spruceton PA at 9AM, 1st mile up via diamond notch trail. Diamond Notch Falls were beautiful especially with the ice and snow. Took immediate right and up devil's path; about 1-2 inches of snow, rest of hike 6+ inches to summit, no crampons just waterproof hiking shoes. This was my first hike w/ snow. Wish I brought crampons and gaiters, now I see the need!! Weather was great, views were excellent at summit. "Broke" trail to summit doing a blood-pumping truffle shuffle. Met a few groups coming down, and a dog (ruby) which had the same name as my dog! Temporarily broke one of my leki trekking poles on way up. Camera died while i stood in front of the westkill summit sign (it actually had a sign about .1 mi west of the lookout)! Frustrated because my backup batteries were dead, but couldnt complain, excellent hike, great workout, great day. A 3500 club member was there that I must have passed on the way down (had window sticker on truck, very early #, remember the initials 'HH').
