Ascent Trip Report

Driving north of Durham on I501 turned right at light in Rougemont onto Red Mountain Rd. Drove east on Red Mt Rd and turned left at four way stop onto
Moores Mill Rd. Drove north on Moores Mill Rd crossing Flat River and then further on turning right onto Firetower Rd. If you miss turn, just a 100 yds further on the left is Robert Gentry Rd. Gone too far, turn around.

Firetower Road is marked as private, but hunting was the only prohibition I saw signed. One mile up Firetower Rd, the firetower and summit will be on the left. There is an overgrown entrance lane to the tower. I parked by it across from a home on the far side of Firetower Rd.

The walk to the firetower is about 50 yds. A secured fence surrounds the tower which is situated in a wooded area with houses far enough away on either side. The first flight up the tower is missing the wooden treads. Some treads on the higher flights look worse for wear. The tower itself is reported to be 72 feet 9 inches high. No views outward are to be had from the base.
