Ascent Trip Report

A weird trip that had some drama. First we were blocked by a "17 diameter Fir tree about 5 miles in that looked like it had fallen during yesterday's wild weather. As we got out of the car to look at it we noticed my left rear tire was "hissing". We had picked up a large rock which was still firmly wedged in the top of the tire partly plugging the hole. We changed the tire then started on the tree using both a bow saw and a hatchet I keep in the vehicle for these occasions. This tree was fresh and it took a while to cut then drag and push out of the way enough to get by. The cut end was at least 40 ft long but fortunately the tree had fallen across and down the steep slope to the right.

With this out of the way we proceeded up the road and was pleasantly surprised with the DNR gate was open! We then made the quick drive to the top.
