Ascent Trip Report

A nice January Adventure in NW Arizona.

5th "Street" in Dolan Springs to the TH is a bit rough. It's eroded and has a long sandy stretch that was challenging for my Subaru. As a rockier (but not rutted or nearly as sandy) alternative from the pavement 7th street to June Rd goes.

I ended up parking just inside the unlocked gate at the wilderness boundary as the road from there is somewhat rutted with no turnaround options until the wilderness register (~1mile in). Having now walked it I could have made it.

To navigate the route I loaded Eric Kassan's gpx file (from his Trip Report) and it proved invaluable. While I saw the occasional boot print and cairn I did not see trail to speak of. Once you reach the saddle at the top of the wash, the northerly of his two legs follows the rocky ridgeline. While Class 3 at times (probably avoidable) it has much less shrubbery.
