Ascent Trip Reportleft the italian's place a bit past 05:00 and accidently drove through oak glen where we saw a healthy pair of adult coyotes....
we started up the san bernardino mtn tr at 07:00 and reached the summit at 14:00. took many stops along the way: stopped at a flat area about 2 miles up, a wooden bench at 5 miles up, limber pine bench camp at 6 miles up, and the stone bench view at 7 miles up. headed back down at 14:30 after a half hour nap at the summit. we were out before 18:00. had to use headlamps to exit.
trail condition is great. a few downed logs. tread is very nice with appropriate rain bars and much nicely sloped.
not much to see in the way of animals-- crows, ravens, chipmunks, squirrels-- and not many were out to be seen. about a mile from the th, on the way down, the italian and i heard a stress call from a coyote. it lasted for half an hour and was a bit disconcerting.
beautiful day, nice hike. we are sore. neither of us had been training these last few weeks regularly. bad boys.
