Ascent Trip Report

moody due to a late start - lost on the way to the trailhead - but an unseasonably warm day; beautiful from the knees up. trail was a little muddy at the bottom, but the rest was simply a clear stream running over rocks. wet feet early on. this was one of the most rocky trails i'd been on in a while. the last .3mi was literally rock-climbing.
met 2 nice women at the summit who shared their 'witches brew' - a non-alcoholic odd mix of hot cocoa, ginger, coffee substitute, cayenne, soymilk and who knows what else. it was actually pretty good and reminded me that i should hike with a hot thermos of goodness.
summit was very calm - almost no wind, not cold at all, wore only a long sleeve shirt. found and photographed the benchmark. views were very limited due to haze; even Camels Hump was fuzzy. could've stayed longer, but wanted to get the Adam's Apple and back to the car before dark.
headed back down the wet rock faces to the tr jct and headed up a gentle slope to the Adam's Apple, .1mi away. not too clear where the summit actually was, so i wandered among the various cairns and higher-looking spots. found an odd benchmark placed by UVM...??
made it back down by 4pm, with plenty of light remaining. i forewent the Shed, the Alchemist, Cold Hollow and all of the other Stowe favorites in exchange for a trip up to S Burlington to have copies of my car key made. somewhat anticlimactic.
