Ascent Trip Report

Parked trail head at Woods Lake, just west of Carson Pass...not signed. Took trail to Round Top Lake, ascended low ridge on trail to Winnemucca Lake, ascended ridge west toward pass between Round Top and unnamed peak south of The Sisters.

As approach first rocks of peak,stay left of first large outcrop rather than going to top of pass and around back of Round Top summit rocks. If stay left, trails will take you to left of outcrop and the path is obvious up and further left onto FALSE summit ridge. Looking south from top of ridge, the real summit will be obvious further south. There are two narrow couliors that break the ridge as one traverses south; both are easy to cross and don't require much if any downclimbing. The second one is largest and teh summit lies on the other side. A direct approach is apparent, but likely safer and less exposed to angle downward across the couloir and then ascend the summit via subtle bedrock chutes apparent as you step up and out of the couloir, kept angling left.

The summit is broad and there are two survey monuments. The register is beneath the summit monument, which is a formed and poured concrete pad! The view is great in every direction, including straight down to Lk. Winnemucca, and into the Mokulumne Cyn to the west.
