Ascent Trip Report

Got lost on the logging roads to reach the trailhead, but eventually got there. Talked with a couple of the Penobscot Indians that were just leaving the area before heading up. I knew they were just at Snow Pond. On the hike up, stuck to the road for ATV's. I could have saved time if I knew about the trail that broke off, but I played it safe by sticking to the road. Lots of mud, taking a while to navigate. After a 4 way intersection, came across a herd path. Followed it to another logging road, to another herd path further up. Went up there to an intersection on the herd path, one going up, the other going down. Went up past a ledge with a great view, to the summit with a broken tower. Could climb up the ladder to get a 360 view. Summit canister in a bat box. Took a slightly different route down. At the logging road, went straight where there was a herd path, and went past Snow Pond. The road there was an extension of the pond. At the 4 way intersection, followed a different route down and shaved off a lot of time. Took detailed notes on the drive out for Sarah Keats, who was planning on finishing her NEHH in 3 days.
