Ascent Trip Report

I started from Hidden Falls Campground on the River Trail which I didn't find on any of my maps. It is an easy to find trail right near the river where the road fords the stream. I didn't realize it until I came down but this trail joins the main trail about a mile up the river. On the way back I actually missed it and came to the river which I didn't remember crossing so I knew something was wrong. Fortunately the turn off to Hidden Falls is only about 100 meters back up the trail on the way down. I continued up to where the trail does cross the river above Long Meadow and I headed NE up and around hoping to slide into the NE gully. Maybe I should have gone up the East side of the river a little further because I ended up in some miserable brush around 7-8000 feet. I don't know if it would have done any good since miserable brush is very common around here. After getting above the brush it was a lot more fun with intermittent granite rocks and easier ground between. After reaching the col North of N Maggie I turned right up easy terrain to the summit. On the way down I sprained my ankle badly fighting the brush and that made the descent a living hell. Living in Porterville this is about the highest mountain on the skyline so I had to climb it. This would be one of the last peaks I would ever repeat unless I had time to hike around the back to Maggie Lakes and do the other side.
