Ascent Trip Report

With only one possible day to climb the peak, we stayed in the Spiterstulen Hut the previous night, woke up at 5:30 and started up the obvious route. The first 700m went quickly, but then things went downhill. After 2000m in particular, the winds became an issue. As we neared the subpeak called "Svellnose," it became difficult to stand up without being blown over. Just as we reluctantly started retracing our steps, a party member rolled her ankle in a very serious way because of being tossed around by the wind in rocky terrain. That sealed it. We had no choice but to beat a quick retreat before the ankle injury swelled up too much.
