Ascent Trip Report

On 6/27/14, I decided to bag two of the most remote mountains in NH, Mount Bond and Bondcliff.

I drove into the Lincoln Woods parking lot at 5 AM. The lot had around 15 cars, so I got a good parking space. After paying the day use fee, I set out on the Lincoln Woods Trail at 5:05 AM.

The Lincoln Woods Trail was very long, wide, flat, and straight, which made it seem like it went on forever, both out and back. The Osseo Trail diverged left at 1.4 mi, then the Black Pond and Franconia Falls Trail at 2.6 and 2.8 miles. I then crossed Franconia Brook on a footbridge, then entered the Pemigewasset Wilderness at 2.9 miles. Here I turned right onto the Bondcliff Trail.

The first part of the Bondcliff Trail was like the LW Trail- long, flat, and straight. Not much here except for a tricky brook crossing. After a couple miles from the junction, I veered left onto the part of the trail that ascended the mountain. It was wet and muddy for the most part, but the weather was nice, so that made up for it. Later on, I crossed Black Brook four times; some of these crossings were tricky, and I took off my boots and socks for the first crossing.

After the fourth crossing, the trail skirted the mountainside at an easy grade, then turned right for the final push to Bondcliff's summit. Once over a big scramble, I reached the top, which was open and ledgy with incredible views. Most of the Pemi peaks, Scar Ridge/Mount Osceola, the Hancocks, Carrigain, and the Franconia Ridge were all visible. I took a breather here and then headed over to Mount Bond.
