Ascent of Bonneville Peak on 2008-09-23
|Date:||Tuesday, September 23, 2008|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||9271 ft / 2825 m|
Ascent Trip ReportA perfect fall day hike. This peak is the second Idaho County High Point I have completed.
I followed the Pebble Creek Ski Area cat tracks to the top of the Skyline lift. In the Ski Patrol shack is a log book for visitors. I left a note to my fellow ski patrollers before heading up the peak.
This was my first ascent of the peak, so I had no inclination if there was an actual trail or path to the peak. There is not.
I followed the cat track to the top of the ski run, South Bowl. From the top of South Bowl, I followed various game trails and scree fields to the top of the ridge. I did not often traverse unless my path was occluded by heavy brush. I came out about halfway between the true summit and the false summit to the north. From here, I followed game trails to the true summit.
Near the summit is a Forest Service radio shed. It appeared that the shed was no longer in use. Also near the summit is a small cairn of rocks. I added a few rocks to the pile.
The view from the summit, was great. Well worth the 2.5 hour hike up.
