Ascent Trip ReportThis was a nice hike from Mineral King. Marmots are rampant this year. We hiked out the Franklin Lakes trail and camped at a nice spot just below the concrete dam. At least 6 marmots were near the campsite, so we used the bear box to protect our food and stuff. The next morning we got an early start and headed up the good trail to Franklin Pass. At the pass the trail ends for our purposes. We could see a good amount of snow on the step slope going up to the summit so we kind of planned our route and then deviated the wrong way. We went up the right side of the slope and this was Class 3 boulder climbing in spots. Eventually we got high enough on the slope to find a string of cairns that helped us find the easier way tot he summit. Fantastic views from the summit. On the descent we followed the cairns much lower on the slope and it was a Class 2 descent.
