Ascent Trip ReportLa Paganella, 2125m, P1099m
Map: Kompass 1:50k sheet 70, 100m contours.
Stats: 0.5mi, 20mH. Would be 9mi and 1070mH from Andalo village.
Time: Mon 25 Aug 2008, 1hr round trip incl La Roda (SE Top).
Start: From W: Andalo, Cable car station in village.
Route: From Andalo, Cable car to Dos Pela, short walk downhill to catch Chairlift, which terminates just below the summit. From the highpoint, we took the broad trail SSE to La Roda.
Difficulties: None. Hike from village likely also YDS 1.
Triangulation point: None mapped or found.
Summit: Cross nearby; highest point has been modified: stony area surmounted by top of chairlift.
Notes: We were time-constrained, having driven up Monte Casale in the small hours, had a few hours sleep then driven up to Andalo, then discovering the Gondola would be closed from 12 noon (siesta). And we needed to sort our climbing gear then walk up to the Segantini hut later ready to climb Presanella the next day. And in truth, the cluttered summit would be an anticlimax after a 1070mH ascent. So we took the gondola and chairlift option. We wandered across to the 2104m La Roda summit which is a little more interesting, but equally dominated by ski clutter. The summit was clear; the superb Brenta grou to the W were mostly clear. The view S towards Cornetto was obscured by cloud. I managed a bit of exercise on the way down, running down as far as Dos Pela before meeting Lee and Andrew to catch the gondola before it closed at midday. We then took a refreshing dip (well Lee did) in the beautiful Lago di Molveno before heading for something more serious - Cima Presanella.
