Ascent Trip Report

Monte Casale, 1632m, P783m

Map: Kompass 1:50k, 100m contours

Stats: 0.2mi, 30mH

Time: Mon 25Aug08, 20 mins round trip.

Start: From West, Comano, at NE edge of village a tarmac road forks R into the wood, continuing as a rough but driveable track. There is an official-looking car park at altitude 700m, and beyond the Authorised Traffic signs, another large car park at at 1600m.

Route: From Comano, at NE end of village, fork R into forest (not as shown on the Kompass map). Drive or hike the forest road / track to a building (Refuge?), Cap. na Don Zio. Then cross easy grassland E to the summit.

Difficulties: None.

Triangulation point: None mapped or found.

Summit: Grassy with a Cross and a bench.

Notes: We arrived at around 2 a.m., having left Lecco late evening after climbing Grigna and Croce di Muggio. We planned to sleep at the trailhead, but finding a driveable track we couldn't resist the drive-up! Parked at the ?refuge, bagged the summit, enjoyed the view of the Trento valley streetlights, then drove back down to the trailhead. Next morning we saw a runner, who seemed to run up and down in about the same time it took us to drive! (we assume he went to the summit). We were curious about the large car park near the summit, given the apparent vehicle prohibition.
