Ascent of Mount Angeles on 2008-09-07| Date: | Sunday, September 7, 2008 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Peak: | Mount Angeles | | Location: | USA-Washington | | Elevation: | 6454 ft / 1967 m |
Ascent Trip ReportSince the "trail" to the summit was not on my map, I started up without a trail on the east side, from the west end of the top switchback. This route was very steep, but by walking up the chutes while using the walls for support, it was doable. The east summit was a nice bonus, and the route across summits wasn't so bad - some downclimbing was needed, but not too much until right before the (west) summit. The views from the summits were amazing - full view of the Olypmic peaks, the sound, vancouver island, a peak I think was Mt. Baker, and more. At the top I met a couple who told me about a "trail" heading down the north side then going around the west side linking up with the trail connecting the switchback trail with the visitor center. This "trail" is easy to follow (except for a few places), but it is very steep and on loose sand/rock.
