Ascent Trip Report

First off, if you are looking to camp in the area, there are a couple nice established campsites right off the War Canyon road one about 2 miles in, and another at about 4 miles in (where a spur roads splits off to the right). Both are before the road gets challenging.

The War Canyon road gets challenging but was not worse than an intermediate-level 4WD road. By looking at satellite, I was able to discern we needed to leave the main road at the first major left turn after reaching the high country- this brought us down to the Cherry Creek canyon. That was where the crux was- we needed to cross the drainage which got a bit boggy and also, had no clear track to follow. Still, we were able to make it to the old Cherry Creek road which took us to the where we started the hike.

We chose the route we did for the more gradual slope as well as being more clear of snow that the route that started west of the summit.
