Ascent Trip Report

Parked at a pull off on Kolob Reservoir Rd between the Hops Valley TH and the dirt road that skirts the west side of Firepit. I headed cross country and very quickly began ascending Firepit Knoll trying to stay among the junipers (shady). I thought thrashing thru brush was likely going to be a problem, but not so. Plenty of natural lanes led up to the summit. Ascent was fairly steep on dirt and marble-sized rock (traction tough at times). Rim was reached in less than 30 minutes. High point reached by walking clockwise around the tree/brush less caldera. A big yellow snake guarded the top spot for a few seconds before disappearing into a hole. I completed the trip around the rim and descended back to the car. Excellent views of Pine Valley Peak as well as the Guardians.
