Ascent Trip Report

Climbed the standard peakbagger's route, the NE ridge from the Maroon Lake trailhead. 5 am start, reached the summit at about 12:30 pm, spent 30 min. on the summit, and finished just before 6 pm. Fabulous weather. This peak lived up to its reputation as one of Colorado's most difficult 14ers. Sustained Class 3 and 4 climbing for nearly 2,000 feet vertical, and an annoying descent through the tilted boulders of the amphitheater. We took the newly developed trail up out of Maroon Creek, but somehow missed it on the way down, and followed the old trail to a point farther south. This added half a mile or so to our day, but no big deal. A great day, a great peak. 14er #39 for me.
