Ascent Trip ReportRelatively short double header on an early spring day.
1. Burnt Knob:
Hit the trail bright and early from Big Hollow TH, headed north to the Burnt Knob/Acra Point junction. A few patches of ice remaining on the trail but the south face of the massif was otherwise free of snow. Skies were moody early on with a lot of heavy wind. Temps were mild early in the day. Made short work of the trail to the junction and then made a nice ascent of Burnt Knob in good time. The north side of the Knob was still fairly iced up and ended up using my microspikes for maybe 1/4 mile. Awesome views of Blackhead/Black Dome/Thomas Cole, especially through the leafless trees. Really enjoyable connecting trail from Burnt Knob to Windham, views all down the Windham Valley.
2. Windham High Peak:
Brief showers on the trail from the Knob to Windham, but the clouds blew past quickly and the sun popped out about halfway up Windham. Mild and enjoyable ascent with good views north to the open landscape. A bit hazy this day, but I've been told you can see the Greens and Whites from this trail on a perfectly clear day. Sun really beating down on the return trip, temps easily into the 60s (Tshirt and shorts and SWEAT!). Overall a beautiful spring hike with summer temps.
