Ascent Trip Report

There are various possible starting points for the ascent, trails are well signposted and maintained, it is obviously a popular peak locally. I chose the hamlet of Cerncice as starting point on the west side of the hill. This can be accessed by leaving the main road between Prague and Dresden at Velemin, towards Milesov (where there is alternative trailhead), driving west through Milesov and forking right on a road (signed Cerncice) which starts poor surface but quickly improves. Parking is possible beside an information board at the trailhead showing all of the marked trails. There were several mountain bikers and hikers on the trails on a Monday afternoon in April. The area around is very attractive, and has many steep volcanic plugs, reminiscent of the area around Puy de Dome in central France. On top were a viewing tower (open) and restaurant (closed)
