"Pheri Bhetunla ..... see you later/again."
Police check point at Jomson, they let me check their register ...... for 1998 they had UK(1700), USA(1450), Germany(1300), France(?), plus any other country you can think of, a lot of trekkers come to to this part of Nepal.
The trail to here is mostly on a river bottom, very rocky, a huge valley with an airport. We saw 2 planes actually circling inside the valley before landing, I thought one was going to hit the side of the mountain, the scale of the place is amazing. Lot of horse caravans carrying goods and tourists/locals. Mountain Nilgri rises high above the valley. We crossed the Kali Gandaki river to the westside (right) before the police check ppoint.
After an early start this morning we had our first break here at Jomson, leaving sometime past 10hoo hours, this will be another short good day, with time to enjoy the moment.
As you proceed down-trail towards Marpha the arid surroundings gives way to pine trees in the mountains, large green farms with apple orchards and vegetables. We arrived before noon at Marpha, a beautiful clean village with electricity.
Raj checked us in at the Dhaulagiri Guest House, a nice friendly place .... the manager and cook, Bashant, specializes in Italian food and makes his own home pasta.
We visited 2 Gompas as we explored the tidiest/cleanest village to date. Goats herded thru the village. The big prayer wheel outside one of the Gompas is over 100 years old, it came from Tibet as a gift from the Dalai Lama. I really liked this place.
I wanted to see where my tax dollars go, so we went to the Town Library funded by Canada, only to find it closed for expansion .... something wrong with the planning, no way it should be closed, Canada needs me a guy like me.
This is a popular trekker stop, the usual gang, bought apple brandy for Raj and Suppa, long chat with the group including Julia and Maya. An enjoyable overnight.
"THE GOAL OF LIFE IS LIVING IN HARMONY WITH NATURE."
