Ascent Trip ReportDAY #4 (SEPT 16) .... CHAMJE(1430M) TO DHARAPANI(1900M) .... 7 1/4(23)hours, 10(32)km.
"maf-garnus .... excuse me (sorry)."
Slept fairly well for the first night, didn't feel much of a cold this morning, however it dripped most of the day and by evening I felt chilled. Crossed river to the eastside on suspension bridge, right after starting out. At Tal(1700m) another police check point , gave them a pin, wanted another. A beautiful flat "delta-looking" area, was once the bottom of a lake, lots of farming, stopped for breakfast. Shotly after Tal we crossed back to the westside on a suspension bridge, and went thru huge/terraced/beautiful corn fields. Not long after we again crossed to the eastside and the village of Karte (1850m) where we had lunch, gave the girl a pen. We crossed the Marsyandi River for the 3rd time today, back to the westside just before our day's destination, Dharapani. A police check point, gave them a pin, checked their log's last 4 month entries and found that no one over 47 years old was registered (it tells me that mostly the young are trekkers).
Again today the trail had numerous steep sections, saw numerous landslides on both side of the river, not much change. No flat places to build/play (except for Tal), trail is the main street, kids playing soccer of a small flat section. Raj settled on the Tibetan Hotel, friendly/clean and nice. Because of costs I stopped buying bottled water today, will switch to "Iodine". Back pack too heavy looked for ways to reduce, gave hair brush/aftershave to Raj, last few days left things behind.
Raj didn't show up for dinner, Lady Owner went to get him ..... "I was called away to help someone", was his lame excuse, he reeked of booze. I was suspicious of his drinking all along, he always seems to lose himself, I also think that I'm paying for some of his booze. Anyway it's no big deal. Yound kids are always watching videos, mostly Indian movies here. I've definetely a cold, really stuffed up, we'll see how this affects my trekking. I was in my bag by 20h30 hours.
We've climbed 1080m in 3 days.
