Ascent Trip ReportUse Exit 331 from I-10 on to US 191. Drive 18 miles south to the town of Sunsites. Turn west (right) on the signed Ironwood Road toward Cochise Stronghold. This road will become FR 84. The blacktop road will transition to gravel after a few miles. Turn right when you reach FR 795, signed as Blacktail Canyon/Baptist Camp/Broken Arrow. Continue on FR 795 until you reach the junction with FR 4378. Turn left here. Follow FR 4378 as it climbs past a white water tank and then past an abandoned stone structure. Shortly past the stone structure you will encounter a spur road heading left. I would suggest that you take this spur until it ends in ~ 1/4 mile. This is a great parking/camping spot with views. Leave you vehicle and walk back to FR 4378 and continue uphill through a few switchbacks to where the road ends. It is possible to drive to the end of the road with a high clearance 2WD vehicle but the last portion is somewhat rough.
Once a the end of the road you will need to bushwhack uphill for ~20 minutes to reach the prominent ridge which will eventually lead you to the summit. The ridge is easy to follow. The final ascent to the summit can be viewed from anywhere along the ridge and consists of ~20 minutes of bushwhacking. I couldn't find a trail either at the start of the climb or on the last part of the hike. Be careful when descending so you connect with the proper ridge back to your vehicle.
This are a couple of inconsequential 3rd class rock steps along the way but they could be bypassed if that's not your forte.
