Ascent Trip ReportThis is the first time our whole family of 16 went for a weekend hike together in the woods. We chose to stay at John's Brook Lodge in Keene Valley, which provides lodging and meals.
We hiked in yesterday as a group and today 12 of us participated in our big climb up to Gothics. The youngest in today's climb was my 7 year old grandson, Michael.
The weather wasn't too cooperative, had some early rain. We used the Ore Bed Trail to the State Range Trail which were muddy/slippery and fairly difficult with ladders and open rock scrambles (aided by a cable). We summitted with cool, clear skies and great views. We had our lunch break down at the col before descending safely back down. Everyone happy and satisfied with their effort, the young ones did a good job. The kids frolicked in the stream for the rest of the PM. We were served a tuna casserole dinner by the lodges young staff.
Tomorrow we will hike out to the garden parking.
