Ascent Trip Report

Leave it to Dr. Dickie to turn an easy class 2 hike (mostly a class 1 trail hike except for the last few feet up the rocks at the high point) into a tough class 3 experience! The trail starts with a staircase across the street from the trailhead parking. In a little over 0.1 mi. this intersects with the AT to the right while straight ahead is a blue blazed trail described on an info board below as a rock scramble trail. It was quite a challenge, throwing my sticks ahead of me so I could grab handholds and foot holds to shimmy myself up. After a few hundred yards of this I was semi-exhausted and there was more looming ahead. I looked down and saw the AT main trail at the base of the rocks. Don't get me wrong. It's a beautiful spot, and if you like rock scrambling you may consider this scrambler's heaven. But it was my sixth peak of the day. so I headed back down to the AT intersection and took it to the top. Easssy!!
