Ascent Trip ReportWe hiked from Elkhart Park to Elkhart Lake, then continued on the Pole Creek Trail a couple of miles before cutting off cross-country toward Tommy Lake, where we fished for golden trout. Ascended on the Highline Trail to Lester Pass, where we cut off north, staying high on the slope of Mount Lester and joined the Indian Pass Trail at Island Lake. On summit day we hiked up into Indian Basin and climbed up to the saddle below Fremont Peak--the usual route. Just below the saddle is a wonderful little fountain of icy-cold water for a last chance to tank up. Halfway to the summit, moist air was forming into billowy clouds right before our eyes. At the summit we looked down through breaks in the clouds to the glacier and the magnificent terrain in every direction.
