Ascent Trip ReportCascade and Porter from 73. Was passing through and decided to snag a quick peak at the ADKs. I hadn't done these since 2010 when I was hungover, on 3 hours sleep and my roommate had to pry me off the couch and drive my girlfriend home before we started our trip. Needless to say, I was in no shape for that trip.
I was killing off a flu this time, which prevented me from really flying, but still able to snag both peaks in a bit over 3h30m. Total trip is about 7.5+/- miles, and about 20-25 hundred total ascent. Summits of both peaks offer awesome views, and parking is in 3 or 4 lots just north of the Cascade Lakes (sign says Pitchoff/Cascade; Pitchoff is on the east side of 73).
A lot of people rip on these two hills because of how many people climb them and how comparatively easy they are to the rest of the hills in the ADK 46 list. But in reality, there's something neat about climbing a hill that literally 500 people can ascend on busy weekends (protip: get there early for parking reasons). It's easy enough to be enjoyable by novice hikers and beautiful enough to reward even the most pretentious hikers (well, at least until they remind you how much easier Cascade is than Seymour).
