Ascent Trip ReportThe road approaching this trailhead is a tough one- I'd recommend 4WD for both rocks and sand. While 17.7 miles from pavement, the last 5 are quite a bit worse. Once at the "trailhead", a different road picks up and continues about another half mile with no signs indicating driving it is prohibited (we didn't see it until we were already hiking).
The terrain on this hike is often quite poor, but you can avoid the worst of the wash by staying above it on either side (there were often cairns on one or sometimes both sides). When you finally reach the ridgeline south of the summit, you will likely go over 3 false summits, but none of them are that bad. They do involve some simple class 3 climbing.
While I've definitely seen worse desert vegetation, one does need to constantly be on the lookout for cactus and other sharp plants.
