Ascent Trip Report

Hiked with Peter W and Rob B. Park at beginning of Gale River Loop Rd @ Rte 3. Hiked in 1.6 miles to Garfield Trail. It was a cold day 15-20 degrees and the trail got real icy at 3000'. We hike to approximately 3600' 2.5 miles (guestimate base on the amount of switch backs on map) before we retreated back due to Rob's strap on traction not being sufficient and problematically falling off. Peter didn't not have any traction device at all. My mirco spikes were awesome. Cold may have been an issue for me if we had continued. At one point I want to put my mittens on and could find them in my pack. I thought I left them in the car only to find them it the inside pocket of my pack top.

Hiked back to Rte 3via Gale River Loop Rd 1.6 miles.

All in all I went prepared for a possible non summit being my first "winter hike" and knowing Peter did not have any traction device.

Estimated mileage 8.2
