Ascent of Mount Elbert on 2008-07-28| Others in Party: | Tim Newman John Hilts | | Date: | Monday, July 28, 2008 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Peak: | Mount Elbert | | Location: | USA-Colorado | | Elevation: | 14433 ft / 4399 m |
Ascent Trip ReportWeather is the huge variable on this climb - and forecasts are very unreliable. So leave early and be brave but not foolish - on our trip, the peaks south of Elbert got plenty of rain, thunder, and lightening while Elbert was left cloudy but dry. To the north, Mount Massive enjoyed sunlight most of the day. As far as the trail, it is pretty good and easy to follow. The long stretch of false summits tested my resolve, but didn't break it.
