Ascent Trip Report

With a ton of snow and a winter storm warning in effect, I strapped my snowboard to my backpack, put on my snowshoes and hiked to the summit of Overlook Mountain. I went all the way to the summit. Right after the Mountain house I bushwhacked along the ridge to the right for the great views.

It was super cold and windy at the summit and even hours after my assent my finger tips hurt. I swapped boots put my snowshoes into my bag and went down. It was kinda slow and a lot of walking for about half a mile until I reached the Overlook Mountain Hotel then it was pretty great boarding from there on out. I got back to the trailhead. signed out and decided, hey its only 2. I've got time and want to do it again!

I hiked up to the Overlook Mountain Hotel wapped boots strapped my snowshoes to the outside because I was out of the wind and had more time. It took me 44 minutes and 45 seconds to hike up the 1.8 mile stretch. It took me 11 minutes to get down. The sun was setting and it was a gorgeous orange color everywhere!

It was a fantastic day.

My second winter summit for the New York Fire Tower challenge, first of the Catskills.

GPS route is just for the first trek up. My phone's battery got low. Next time I'll start it when I plan to descend on my board to get those speeds!
