Ascent of Alex Mountain on 2013-12-28
|Date:||Saturday, December 28, 2013|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||4080 ft / 1243 m|
Ascent Trip ReportParked at corner of Alex Mountain Road and Wild Bird Lane. Walked up wild bird lane, and saw a redheaded woodpecker. I continued on a concrete driveway to the radio tower at the top. There is a rock there that may be the highest point.
I continued on a trail to another high spot that is just before the water tower on bayberry lane. I can't tell which is the high point. I came down from that spot and walked around the tower, which is at the end of a newly paved road. There is a dilapidated picnic shelter there.
I hiked over to the south end of the ridge. There appears to be a trail down from there that might connect to the Rabun Bald trails, but I didn't want to leave my car all day parked in that subdivision.
So, I walked back to the car, and drove to Beegum Gap to continue my adventure.
