Ascent of Crestone Needle in 2006-07
|Others in Party:||Barry Raven|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|

Ascent Trip Report5.8, 5.9 variation to Ellingwood Ledges. This crack system is left of the std route. Free soloed all the lower scrambling sections (some exposed 4th Class); roped up for the last two 5th Class pitches. Be advised: plan for a long long day if climbing all scrambling sections roped - running belays would help make it faster.
We had clouds billowing over the summit and rolling several thousand feet down the north face before dissipating - we knew we were chancing bad wx. On the summit, we saw the thick clouds were piled up on the south side in the valley, close to top, and wisping over the summit. That was really neat. Then we heard two climbers below on the traverse from Kit Carson - a man and woman. Both were spooked when the arrived at the summit 10 minutes after us. They had been soleing the traverse in the thick shroud of the clouds. We all enjoyed the summit and then headed down together, feeling like we had had plenty of adventure that day.
