Ascent Trip ReportThis was my first attempt at the highest peak in Maine, but this was as far as we got. I really enjoyed climbing up Dudley trail. Climbing down it would have been more fun had it not been raining. Michael and I began this trip by sleeping in his car the night before making us first in line to get into the Baxter Park. They have this rule that they only let 34 cars in on a given day, so in order to ensure a spot we decided to camp out the night before. When you drive all that way you don't want to be turned away at the door. We were with a group of 7 other hikers. Needless to say we never made it to our final destination but as we have learned a few times sometimes the wisest thing is to abandon your plan and try agin another time. The weather started out partly cloudy, but turned nasty as they day progressed. I am already dreaming of going back to get these peaks -- what we saw was beautiful.
