Ascent Trip ReportLeft Ballard went to Edmonds took ferry to Kingston, drove across through Port Gamble to Hood Canal bridge. Headed down to Quilcene and into Olympic NF. Missed the FS road and ended up circling around back to Quilcene. Found the trail on the second try and hiked in through rainforest, climbing out into subalpine. Ran out of daylight so pitched tent on tiny postage stamp of a site on the mountainside. Had a great view of the Hood Canal and the Sound, with several fireworks displays visible. Next morning summited Mt Townsend - great views when the clouds were broken. Headed down and over into the Silver Creek drainage. At Silver Lake the fog was rolling down into the lake basin and reducing visibility to 15 ft, then would clear out, then come back. Pretty cool. Packed out the next day.
