Ascent Trip Report

Getting to the trailhead is the first challenge. Looking at Google maps, a more direct route (than the signs indicate) is shown, but the first half mile shows it to be so bad as not to be worth it (it may not even be passable). Following the signs, the road is OK (for high-clearance, and preferably 4WD for the sand), but one needs to be vigilant for nasty ruts caused by washes. The last few miles are also rather rocky.

Once at the trailhead, the trail is fairly easy to follow (but one can lose it if one doesn't pay attention). The first couple miles are rather level, but then it gets steep, loose, and rocky.

As mentioned by many others, the official trail ends at the first (and shorter) summit, but an unofficial trail leads towards the real summit and gets to within an easy walk from it. The summit is very near the tallest tree on the "table". The USGS marker and summit register are a little ways north of there, marked by a metal pole.
