Ascent Trip Report

Took the trail to Cottonwood Pass out of Horseshoe Meadows and turned south on the well-maintained trail to Trail Pass (an unfortunate name). Easy ascent to Trail Pass, elev. approx. 10,500 ft, from where I followed the PCT westward for a couple of switchbacks, then headed straight up the east ridge of Trail Peak. Navigation was straightforward: just keep heading up. Summit area is marked by a large utility pole cemented at its base into the summit blocks. The highest block requires an easy class 3 move to surmount. There is a USGS marker indicating an elevation of 11,622 ft. I found an ammo box, but completely empty - no papers, registers or writing utensils. Great views in all directions. Descended back to the pass and continued eastward on the PCT to Mulkey Pass in order to complete a loop.
