Ascent Trip Report

From the crossroads, we had 0.8 miles of a lot of up to the highest peak in the Adirondacks. Climbing up the trail while surrounded by trees was not unlike other steep climbs up these peaks. I got excited and thought it was a good thing when we reached the tree line. I knew we were getting close, but with all of the fog there was not much visibility, and the wind was much stronger without the trees. It took much longer than expected, continuing to just move from one cairn to the next and not being able to see much beyond that. When we finally did make it to the summit, it was cold, windy and still lacking any views. We checked out the USGS marker and the plaque on the north side of the pinnacle, and then agreed to get the hell out of there. It was chilly the whole descent and spirits were low with no views to be had from the tallest peak. We will be back after finishing the 46ers, to get the views we hoped from Marcy and Skylight.
