Ascent Trip ReportFrom Sandpoint take Hwy. 200 east 25 miles to Clark Fork; turn left at Lightning Creek Road and go 1.2 miles (do not take Road 419) to the fork in the Road; take the fork to the left and go 1.4 miles; turn right and go 1 mile; turn left and go ½ mile; turn left and go 2.1 miles; turn left to the trailhead. It is a total of 6.3 miles from Hwy. 200. This trail is rated as one of the most difficult Class 1 trails in Idaho. It is very steep in places, with a cumulative elevation gain of 3729' over the 4.2 mile trail to the top. There is sure to be NO water sources on the trail so pack appropriately. This is a popular and well maintained trail, we saw about 10 others making the ascent the same day. On top of the rugged peak there are excellent views of the surrounding mountains, including Scotchman #2, and goat mountain. Although we never saw them, there is known to be Mountain goats near the top.
