Ascent Trip ReportThis was my 3rd attempt on Isolation. The first was September 2007 when I turned back because of the 90+ degree heat. The second attempt was in early May 2008. We turned back because of the high waters. July 5, 2008 was a beautiful day with wonderful views above tree line. We went up the Glen Boulder Trail and Davis Path. Hiked through the Enchanted Forest; Sue & I missed the sign for the Mt Isolation spur. Barra called out to us before we went too far. We met a guy on the summit who had completed his 48 that day. What a great feeling that must be! We went down the Isolation Trail and Rocky Branch Trail. Both were wet, muddy and sloppy. Water crossing that took an hour back in May took minutes in July. As long as you were moving the black flies weren’t an issue but if you stopped for more than a minute they would descend upon you. Mt Isolation will probably never see my sorry butt again but I will definitely go back to Glen Boulder and Davis Path.
