Ascent Trip Report

2013 Annual Hiking Trip with Dad:

Each of the 3 bridges were washed out resulting in our boots being completed soaked within the first 1/2 mile. The hike in was relatively easy provided that it was ~8 miles to the base of Allen Mountain. Dad "lightened" his pack at the 6.5 mile mark where he also realized that he forgot to put his water purifier in his pack ... awesome, time to ration our water supply! The ascent wasn't bad until we were at ~3,500 ft. Steep rock-face ascent which was wet due to the misting rain. We didn't spend too much time on the summit due to the weather. Upon our descent we realized that there was a better, more forgiving, route than the one we used on the way up. The descent was quite a bit quicker than we had expected. The hike out was good. We ran into 3 guys from NJ who were hiking in for the night with the plan to summit Allen Mountain in the morning. All in all it was a good, LONG, day of hiking in the ADKs ....
