Ascent Trip Report

The drive used Gerry and Jennifer Roach's guidebook to the local wilderness areas. The roads had some damage from the recent flooding. If we'd driven my 4Runner we'd have been able to drive all the way to the saddle at ~11,050' but we were in a lower-clearance vehicle and chose to stop about 800' lower. You'd have to stop a little lower if the gate were closed; it's at about 9800' or so.

We were not the first to note that the USGS map is wrong on this peak. My guess is that the 11550 and 11570 spot elevations are reversed. It is clear, even without a sighting level, that the easterly summit is higher (the Roach guidebook points this out, too). With sighting levels (we each had one, and sighted independently) it was clear the where we were was higher than the tops of the trees on "11570".
