Ascent Trip ReportWe intended to hike this trail over the weekend, but drove by in the middle of the day and there was no place to park, so we hiked Mt. Jo instead. We arrived at 7:30 AM, only one other person had arrived sooner than us. It was around 35 degrees and sunny, but it was early, and the high was going to be in the 60's.
The hike began rather flat and dry, but it didn't stay that way for too long. The ascent begins and continues with rocky staircases becoming wetter and rockier. Took us an hour and a half until we came to a look out point. We took a break and some photos, and regained the energy to continue on. A few more minutes before we reached the "Cascade .3 mile/Porter Mt .7 mile" sign. The hike continued mainly through mud, then up boulders. We bouldered our way to the top and as a beginner, I remember thinking, I have no idea how we are getting down from this. We were fine. The top had incredible views of the High Peaks, the town of Lake Placid, and the Champlain Valley. We were blessed with a nice clear sunny day to view it all.
