Ascent Trip ReportI climbed Hamlin and Baxter from Abol Campground. Not too bad. Straight up, though. 2.8 miles and like 3500 feet up to Thoreau Springs. I took the cutoff to the Saddle Trail which was a mile, then 1.5 miles to Hamlin Peak. Trail around Hamlin peak is awesome, and is pretty barren to the north of Hamlin. I would highly recommend taking a walk out that way to the Northwest Plateau.
Took the trail north from Hamlin over Baxter Peak. Then back down to Abol. It was like 11 miles or so; pretty awesome.
But seriously, check out the Northwestern Plateau.
