Ascent Trip Report

Made good time and got to the top of old army pass without any issues. It was cloudly all day, but now it looked like the weather was closing in. I decided to keep going. Soon some light rain started, no problem, I donned my rain gear. A few minutes later - hail.I sought shelter near some large rocks. Then a torrential downpour. My upper body was nice and dry, but I didn't bring water proof pants. Big mistake. I was at about 12800 feet and decided to move down the mountain a bit for better shelter and see if the system moved through. I met up with another hiker and we talked it over. The rain wouldn't stop and the sky darkened. A few minutes later - thunder. I didn't see the lightning strikes, but the thunder seemed right on top of us and going up to the highest point didn't seem a good idea.
I turned back and made my way down the mountain. There was light rain most of the way. I'll be back in a couple of weeks.
