Ascent Trip ReportFor day five of Eric's Colorado trip, we decided to try Emma Burr Mountain, a fairly indistinct summit that was fairly easily attained and near to where we had camped the night before. My Achilles Tendon was flaring up a little, and now Tim was having a similar problem, so we decided on something fairly easy for a second day in a row. As it turned out, Tim decided it best he skip the whole outing, and headed into the town of Salida to swim it the public pool there.
The road up to Tincup Pass was more rugged than anticipated, but much less so than the road up the Mount Antero the day before. It is generally what I would consider a HC 4WD affair, though to my amazement, someone had actually managed to get a Toyota Sienna minivan up there when we finished the hike.
We started up a faint trail that went sharply up the western side of the ridge. It was steep but smooth, and wound its way toward a saddle through the tundra. It petered out about 2/3 of the up, but it was of little consequence, as the tundra was as pleasant as the trail. Anji and I got well ahead of Eric on this early section. The saddle leads up and to the north, and a small hill there, which turned out to be Tincup Peak when we checked here in peakbagger. We descended the north ridge toward the slightly higher and more impressive peak to the north, arriving at a saddle between the two with and elevation of around 12880'.
