Ascent Trip Report

When the cumulus clouds finally lifted above 14500msl, I was able to see all the area 14ers except Pikes Peak. Looking into the mid-morning sun, there was easily enough haze to blur it out. I could barely see Elevenmile Rsvr at 40 miles, and Pikes Peak is 66 miles. In the late afternoon or on a clearer day, I'm sure it can be seen.
Counting Pikes Peak and Sherman itself, I counted 26 of the 53 ranked 14ers. All of the Sawatch Range except Tabeguache (behind Antero) were found. Beyond the Sawatch, I could see Pyramid and Maroon. Could see but didn't count Conundrum and North Maroon (unranked). Castle was hidden behind French Mtn. To the northeast, picked out all from the Mosquito Range (didn't count Cameron) along with Torreys, Grays, Bierstadt and Evans.
Castle Peak can be seen from Mt Sheridan. The profile of its spiked south ridge, sharp peak, and Conundrum's notch are perfectly framed by the Sawatch's Casco and French Mtns. But here you'll miss Torreys, Grays, Bierstadt and Evans. Bross can only be seen from the windbreak on the NW ridge.
