Ascent Trip Report

Parked in the Roaringkill DEC parking lot. Started hiking at 6:30am. Got to "The Chairs" in about 30 minutes. After the beaver dam I ran into 2 guys camping that had gotten soaked in the downpour last night. Got to Pecoy Notch around 7:45am. Had a quick snack and headed up Sugarloaf Mtn. Arrived at the summit at 9:00am, 2.5 hrs. to the peak. Checked out the view on a side trail just past the summit, and rewarded myself with some Hersheys chocolate which I brought along for that purpose. Off to Plateau mtn. The rocks were real slippery on the way down to the Mink Hollow trail from all the rain last night, and I had to be real careful. Ran into a lady at the col who was hiking by herself, said hello, and headed up Plateau. This trail gains about 1200 ft. in a short distance, and the trail literally goes straight up the mountain. It's a great workout. There's a nice view shortly before the summit. Reached the summit at 11:30am, 5 hrs. from the parking lot. Headed back down to the view for some more snacks, then headed down the mtn. I passed the lady I ran into at the bottom, and she said that she had hiked Plateau once before in the winter. Then a few minutes later I ran into the 2 campers that had gotten caught in the rain. Everyone seemed in good spirits. Then it was down the mtn. to the col. I headed back on the trail to the Roaringkill parking lot. I thought the decent would never end. I finally reached the parking lot at 2:15pm, 7:45 minutes of steady hiking. It was a good day of hiking, and I actually felt pretty good afterward. Then I was off to McDonalds to replenish some of those lost calories. :) 2 1/2 hours of driving and I was home.
