Ascent Trip ReportA leisurely half-mile uphill stroll (but don't tell that to the occasional whiny non-hiker tourist you'll pass along the way). A short road connects the Waterrock Knob Overlook with the Blue Ridge Parkway, appx. 10 miles (15 km) from Soco Gap on US-19 and 20 miles or so from Balsam Gap on US-23. A half-mile trail then connects the overlook with the summit. There is a benchmark at the summit. The view isn't panoramic, but various short spurs lead to cliff-side overlooks adjacent to the summit.
The unmaintained trail to Lyn Lowry looked well-beaten relative to other manways I've encountered in Southern Appalachia, although rumbles of thunder nixed my attempt at this one.
